Avec des A is an assemblage of four sheets of aluminium which have been embossed and then unified by the use of oil paint and the addition of a large printing press typeset letter in gilded metal. It belongs to the series of works that Antoni Clavé executed after his second voyage to New York. The work, with its use of graffiti and the large areas of monochromatic colour displays a roughness that is almost crude. The viewer has to allow himself to enter into the composition in order to penetrate its urban landscape and discover its luminosity. Vu à Vicky street and Corvette both belong to this same series whereby the artist reinterprets his fascination with the city of New York.
